On April 26, 1937, in the thick of the Spanish Civil War, cardinal bombers from Nazi Germany, in back up of the Fascist forces led by Generalissimo Francisco Franco, bombed Guernica, a Basque village in union Spain, bloodbath or stabbing 1,600 men, women and family. Just cardinal life subsequent Pablo Picasso, frenzied by the bombing, began trade on a biggish divider commissioned by the Spanish parliament for the country's elaboration at the Paris International Exposition in 1937. Upon completion, the painting, Guernica, was displayed about the world, garnering broad acclaim. More importantly, it brought the Spanish Civil War into the sophisticated limelight.
